It took Anakin a few long breaths to actually open his eyes somewhat, and even then, his breaths were still rasping. Padme could see the start of something like tears in his eyes. “I don’t… I don’t know how much longer I can… fight.” He paused to give a solid gulp, pain etched into his face. “Maybe it would be better - kinder - if… if you just… l-let me go… please…”

Her hand reached out to pet at his cheek, and her thumb gently touched his lips as if to shush him, though the movement was soft and delicate. “Sshh,” Padme whispered, voice catching in her throat. “I’m not ready to give up on you, Anakin. I’m not.”
